What is Soumokutou?
Soumokutou is a type of stone cultural heritage that is now distributed around the world. Originating from the image of “Soumokutou,” it is considered to be a gravestone or stone monument that acknowledges the existence of “spirits of plants” and offers them reverence. It is gaining attention as a symbol of environmental conservation and the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals).
This seminar will delve into the many mysteries of Soumokutou, featuring a lecture by Professor Fumihiko Sueki, Honorary Professor at the International Research Center for Japanese Studies. Following the lecture, there will be a discussion with local researchers.
We look forward to your participation!
