The 48th Uesugi Snow Lantern Festival: Call for Snow Lantern Creation Groups!
This year’s Uesugi Snow Lantern Festival will be held over two days, from Saturday, February 8 to Sunday, February 9, 2024.
The Uesugi Snow Lantern Festival is a beloved winter event in Yonezawa, attracting many visitors every year. We aim to envelop the cold and harsh Yonezawa winter in the soft glow of snow lanterns, creating a magical and fantastical atmosphere at the venue.
We are looking for groups who would like to participate in creating snow lanterns at the festival venue. Schools, local communities, businesses, and clubs—everyone is invited to join forces and help make this festival even more special!
Festival Dates:
Saturday, February 8 – Sunday, February 9, 2024
Note: Pre-lighting on Friday, February 7.
Application Period:
November 15 (Friday) – December 18 (Wednesday), 2024
Production Period:
You can work on making the lanterns at your convenience during the following times:
- Frame (Tofu) Creation: From Monday, February 3, 2024
- Main Production: From 2:00 PM on Tuesday, February 4 to morning of Saturday, February 8, 2024
Note: For the Uesugi Shrine path, work must be completed by morning of Friday, February 7.
Required Number of Participants:
For safety, at least 4 people are required for the tofu frame creation and 3 people for the main production per lantern.
Staff will provide guidance for first-time participants.
