We are now recruiting participants to join the Uesugi Army Procession and the Battle of Kawanakajima Reenactment at the Yonezawa Uesugi Festival on Sunday, May 3, 2026, as an Armored Samurai.
We are also recruiting participants to take part in the Battle of Kawanakajima reenactment as Commander-Level Armored Samurai.

Application for Armored Samurai Participation
Yonezawa Uesugi Festival – Uesugi Army Procession and Battle of Kawanakajima

Activity Description
Participants will wear blue armor representing the Uesugi Army and take part in the Uesugi Army Procession and the Battle of Kawanakajima Reenactment.
Participation Fee
10,000 yen
(Includes costume, dressing assistance, lunch, insurance, and commemorative gift)
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be 18 years of age or older and physically capable (all genders welcome)
- Be in good health
Number of Participants
50 participants
(If applications exceed capacity, participants will be selected by lottery.)
Roles
Approximately 4 participants will be assigned as Vice Commanders, and the remaining participants will serve as foot soldiers.
Roles will be determined by lottery on the day of the event.
Important Notes
- Please prepare your own tabi boots if possible (navy or black preferred).
- Those wishing to participate using their own armor must submit photos of the armor along with the application form. Armor that is not representative of the Uesugi Army’s blue color, or armor that is overly decorative, will not be permitted.
- The lunch provided (battle bento) cannot be changed.
- If you cancel on the day of the event, the participation fee will still be charged.
- Participants are required to follow all instructions provided by the organizers.

Activity Description
Participants will wear traditional samurai armor and take part as a commander-level armored samurai in the Battle of Kawanakajima Reenactment.
Please note: Participants in this category will not join the Uesugi Army Procession.
Participation Fee
15,000 yen
(Includes costume, dressing assistance, lunch, insurance, and commemorative gift)
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be 18 years of age or older and physically capable
- Be in good health
- Be able to attend the rehearsal on the morning of the event day
Number of Participants
5 participants
(If applications exceed capacity, participants will be selected by lottery.)
Roles
Participants will be assigned commander-level roles in either the Uesugi Army or the Takeda Army.
Roles will be determined by lottery.
Important Notes
- Please prepare your own tabi boots if possible (navy or black preferred).
- Cancellation after role assignment is not permitted. If cancellation on the event day is unavoidable, the participation fee will still be charged.
