Yonezawa Uesugi Museum Collection Exhibition: “New Acquisitions Exhibition” – The History and Culture of Yonezawa and Uesugi

The Yonezawa Uesugi Museum has been dedicated to collecting materials related to the Yonezawa and Uesugi families, as well as artworks by local artists from the Okitama region. Over the past decade, the number of items collected has exceeded 11,000.

However, only a small portion of these items has been featured in previous exhibitions.

In this exhibition, we will display a diverse array of materials related to the history and culture of Yonezawa and the Uesugi family, primarily focusing on historical items donated or entrusted to the museum since 2018.

Exhibited items include cultural properties associated with the Uesugi family, swords linked to the Yonezawa domain and documents revealing their management, a letter sent by the late Edo period activist Ryuuou Kumoi to his family, and postcards capturing views of Yonezawa. All of the exhibited materials will be shown for the first time.

Enjoy discovering a new aspect of Yonezawa and Uesugi’s history!
