Rakugo at the Temple! The 9th Saienji Rakugo Performance on September 21st (Saturday)!
Rakugo, a traditional Japanese art of storytelling beloved across generations, is said to have its roots in Buddhist sermons. Why not enjoy this unique art form in a temple setting? The performance will feature the highly acclaimed and rising star in the rakugo world, Master Sanyutei Mankitsu, a promising talent under the Sanyutei school.

Performer Profile: Fourth-Generation Sanyutei Mankitsu
Born in Aichi Prefecture in 1979. In 2003, he joined the Sanyutei Enkitsu school, known from the show “Shoten,” under the guidance of Master Sanyutei Enkitsu. He performed as Sanyutei Kitsutsuki (second-rank) and won numerous awards in young rakugo contests.
Promoted to the rank of Shinnai (master) in 2013 and adopted the name Fourth-Generation Sanyutei Mankitsu. In June 2018, he received the Gold Prize at the “Heisei 29th Annual Flower Entertainment Awards” hosted by the National Arts Theater. He is now one of the most highly regarded up-and-coming rakugo performers.
