In the winter of the Yonezawa and Okitama areas, stunning winter-only landscapes created by overwhelming snow and ice unfold before you.
It’s a view you can only encounter now—let’s set off on a winter adventure to fully enjoy the season!
◇Yonezawa City “Ice Bamboo Shoot Trekking Tour”
Let’s go meet the Ice Trolls
Inside a tunnel built in the Meiji era at the border between Yamagata and Fukushima Prefectures, water droplets falling from the ceiling freeze and create a rare sight of ice bamboo shoots growing from the ground.
On snowshoes, you’ll tour the “Bansei Oji” road, which was once a national highway 140 years ago, and head toward the tunnel.
- The local guide will provide explanations on Meiji-era civil engineering techniques and animal tracks along the route.
● Tour Dates: Scheduled for mid-February to March 2025
● Experience Time: Approximately 7 hours (4 hours of trekking)
● Capacity: 16 people per day (minimum number of participants: 6)
● Notes: Details will be posted on the official website once confirmed.
