This temple is said to have been established during the Daidō era (year 806) by the best student of Kūkai, an important figure in Japanese Buddhism. It is famous for its beautiful hydrangea flowers, with about 2,000 flowers blooming on the temple grounds in total. On January 17, a fire-walking Shinto ritual is held here and traditional wooden crafts are put on sale.
Also known as "Hydrangea Temple", its history extends over 1,200 years
