Call for Snow Lantern Creation Groups for the 49th Uesugi Snow Lantern Festival!(Deadline: Monday, December 22, Reiwa 7 [2025])

**Recruitment of Snow Lantern Creation Groups

for the 49th Uesugi Snow Lantern Festival**

This year’s Uesugi Snow Lantern Festival will be held over two days, from February 14 (Saturday) to February 15 (Sunday), Reiwa 8 (2026).

The festival is beloved as one of Yonezawa’s signature winter events, attracting many visitors each year. By enveloping the city’s harsh and cold winter in the gentle glow of snow lanterns, we aim to create a magical and enchanting atmosphere throughout the venue.

We are now seeking groups who can create snow lanterns within the festival grounds. Schools, neighborhood associations, companies, community groups, and circles are all welcome—let’s work together to make the festival even more vibrant!

Festival Schedule

February 14 (Saturday) – February 15 (Sunday), Reiwa 8 (2026)
※ Early Illumination: February 13 (Friday)


Application Period

November 18 (Tuesday) – December 22 (Monday), Reiwa 7 (2025)


Creation Schedule

You may work at any convenient time during the following periods:

  • Framework (Tofu) Building: From February 9 (Monday), Reiwa 8 (2026)
  • Main Construction:
    From the afternoon of February 10 (Tuesday)
    until the morning of February 14 (Saturday)

※ To ensure the lanterns harden properly, please allow one night to 24 hours or more between the framework construction and the main construction.
※ Due to festival operations, work cannot be carried out after 17:00 on February 11 (Wednesday, holiday).
※ Groups wishing to participate in the Early Illumination (shrine approach area) must complete the main construction by the morning of February 13 (Friday).
※ Please refer to the “Construction Procedures” for detailed instructions.


Required Number of Participants

For safety reasons:

  • Framework (Tofu) Building: At least 4 people per lantern
  • Main Construction: At least 3 people per lantern

How to Apply

Online Application:
Please apply through the Google Form linked via the QR code in the application guidelines or on the application form.

Paper Application:
Download the application form or pick it up at the Yonezawa City Tourism Division.
Fill it out and submit it to the office below by hand, mail, or fax.
